According to Ellis Island records, Arthur Berthold arrived in New York on 8 Oct. 1913 aboard the S.S. Imperator sailing from Cuxhaven, Gemany five months after her maiden voyage. See line 14 on the ship manifest. (Note: The sailing date on the manifest is incorrectly stamped with a departure date of 1 Oct 1912.) The Imperator was launched with much fanfare less than a year after the sinking of the Titanic. For more information on the S.S. According to Margery Voutsas, Arthur Berthold taught at Northwestern University and wrote numerous papers on orthodontics “when it was in its infancy.”

“Records in the University Archives show that Arthur Berthold attended the Northwestern University Dental School, graduating in 1916. They also show that he taught in the NU Dental School as an Instructor in Dental Mechanics from 1922 to 1924. (He taught part-time during the 1922 and 1923 academic years.)”
