John was a general surgeon who spent most of his career as a military doctor. He held the rank of Colonel. John served in the Canadian Army Medical Corps in Spitzbergen, England, Sicily, Italy, and Northwest Europe. He also served with the United Nations Forces in Korea. John died at home in Ottawa of a heart attack.
