Margaretha Eberhard and her husband Christoph Meyer emigrated from Württenberg, Germany in the latter part of the 19th century and settled on the north side of Chicago where they operated a large vegetable farm at Devon Ave. and Ridge Road.  Their youngest daughter Louisa married Alois Buehlmann who had emigrated from Lucerne, Switzerland, while their youngest son Gottlieb married Lillian Greiner whose parents had emigrated from the region around Stuttgart, Germany.  At some point, both Louisa & Gottlieb changed the spelling of their name to “Mayer.”  Gottlieb Mayer, a pianist who played on Lake Michigan boats and in movie houses to accompany silent movies, is the father of Margery Mayer.
