J.C.Z. Timmons of Russell Loses his life in the Farmer's Gin

[Last week the Star] neglected to note the death of J.C.Z. Timmons, an honored and progressive citizen of the Russell Community. Mr. Timmons was manager of the Farmer's Gin at Russell. On Saturday afternoon, March 3, while near a line-shaft of the gin, which was running, his coat was caught in the shaft. He was thrown over the shaft. The injured man was picked up by parties and taken to his home nearby. He was almost completely paralyzed, his head being the only member of his body that he could move. It was with considerable effort that he could talk and respiration was difficult. He lived until the following day--about Sunrise. The remains were buried in Russell Cemetery Monday afternoon by the Odd Fellows of which Mr. Timmons was a member at Red Hill school house and which he twice represented in the grand lodge of the territory. The religious ceremony was conducted by Rev. Wm Donehoo. . . .

Mr. Timmons was one of the leading spirits of the Russell Country. He was always among the first in advocacy of everything for the promotion of his community. He owned a half section of fine land one half mile south of Russell.
