Notes for Ernest Graham Guthrie
Ernest was brought up in Dunedin and educated at George Street School (admitted 8 February 1886, left 21 July 1893), Arthur Street School (enrolled 14 July 1893, left 21 July 1893), Otago Boys' High School and the University of Otago where he graduated M.A. (Hons). Following this he moved to the U.S.A. and graduated Doctor of Divinity at Yale.

After a series of appointments to churches in the New England states he became Superintendent of the Chicago Congregational Union from 1926 until retirement to Florida in 1942. During WWI he was a pastor on the Western Front. With his sister Margaret, Ernest travelled widely, making several visits back to NZ.

The NZ Gazette 1908 Page 166 records Ernest's occupation as "Officiating Minister." (Ref NZSG Index CD 2003).
