Notes for Jessie Helena Hepburn
Jessie was brought up at Wakari and Dunedin. She received her secondary education at Otago Girl's High School.

Jessie and Charles were married by Rev. William Hewitson in the house of Mabel Hepburn, the bride's sister. The house was in Leven Street, Dunedin and was probably the family home originally owned by their mother Margaret. The witnesses to the marriage were H. J. Guthrie, Charles' brother, and V.M. Hepburn, the bride's sister.

Jessie was talented artistically especially in painting, carving and needlework. G.R. Hutton & J.M. Gould (nee Hutton) have some fine examples of her skills. D.B. Hutton also has some of her work plus photographic & video records of many others. Jessie was also interested in gardening, reading and stamp collecting which she introduced to her Hutton grandchildren.

From early adulthood she had increasing difficulties with hearing and was profoundly deaf for over half her life. During her 92 years Jessie resided in Dunedin (1875-1902), Waimate (1902-13), Dunedin (1913-53) and Greymouth (1953-66). Contrary to the note on her official Death Entry, she was a geriatric patient at Seaview, Hokitika for less than a year.
