In 1810, the year of John's birth, his parents were residing at Leiths Hill (sic? Mill, perhaps?). The fact that John was married is mentioned in an 1879 letter written by his cousin Elizabeth Andrew to her brother Francis in Canada. She noted that "a son of cousin John's...is...in the new mill," which suggests he had other children.
