In the 1891 census (Family No. 40) Viney was listed as a three-year-old residing in the Charlottetown Royalty household of her grandfather Francis Andrew together with her mother Annie, three of Annie’s younger siblings--John (17), Frederick (13), Elizabeth (11),and a 15-year-old “domestic” named Jane Bell.
Viney was raised at Belmont (formerly Wright's) Mills in East Royalty, Prince Edward Island, Canada in the household of her uncle John Bell Andrew.

The P.E.I. register of baptisms indicates that Viney was baptised at the Marshfield Presbyterian Church together with the five youngest children of William and Annie Connolly shortly after Annie Connolly died and William remarried Catherine MacLeod, probably 1894-95. In this register the parents of all six children are listed as William Connolly & Catherine MacLeod.
