Notes for Mary Joyce MacDonald
Joyce was brought up and educated in South Canterbury, N.Z. She was a trained nurse. In World War II she joined the Medical Corps and served in the Middle East. During a period of leave in Egypt she met Bruce. After they returned to New Zealand at the end of the war, Joyce and Bruce became engaged and subsequently married. They resided at Andersons Bay, Dunedin until retirement to Wanaka, Central Otago in the 1970s. Joyce wrote a book on her war experiences which proved so popular it went into a second edition.
