Notes for John Hay Andrew
John Hay Andrew was a tenant of Rudle Mill in Argyllshire in the 1850s. He subsequently moved to Riccarton Mill near Kilmarnock around 1862. At the time of the 1881 census, John was still working as a grain miller, employed 3 men and was living at Riccarton Grain Mill, Riccarton, Ayrshire. His household included his daughter Margaret (32) housekeeper, son Edward (30) grain miller, daughter Jessie Elizabeth (29) school teacher, and son John (27) grain miller. A general servant, Jessie Hope aged 15 of Riccarton was also living in the household in 1881.
