Notes for James Andrew
James Andrew, b. 16 May 1808 in Kilmarnock, Ayrshire, Scotland, occupation Teacher of Music, Land Surveyor.

In 1808, the year of James's birth, his parents were residing at Leiths Hill (sic? - Mill, perhaps?). At the Census in 1851 James was living at Eglinton Street East, Irvine, Ayrshire, Scotland along with twin children James (11), Janet (11), his married sister Margaret Andrew (28) (q.v.) and his nieces Isabella (3) and Mary (10months). (Ref: Email from Dave Killicoat, Researcher, Ayr, Scotland, 24 March 1999 - see Don Hutton's files - Guthrie). James's wife was probably elsewhere at the time of the census as another daughter, Mary b.1844, was not recorded in 1844.

In 1881 James, a widower aged 72, was residing at West Back Road, Irvine, and his occupation was recorded as Musician and Land Surveyor. Mary, unmarried, aged 37 was living at the same address.
