Notes for Elizabeth Hannah Andrew
Elizabeth, known as "Lizzie" (according to Don Hutton), moved to Minneapolis, Minnesota, with her sisters Annie and Margaret. She never married. All early records from Prince Edward Island (e.g.,baptism, census) list her name as “Hannah Elizabeth.” She may have changed the order to match her nickname when she came to the United States.)

On March 1, 1929, Elizabeth Hannah Andrew filed a “Declaration of Intention” to “renounce forever all allegiance and fidelity to any foreign prince, potentate, state, or sovereignty, and particularly to George V. by the Grace of God, of Great Britain, Ireland, and the British Dominions beyond the Seas, King, Defender of the Faith, Emperor of India of whom I am now subject.

This Declaration of Intention, which is a first step towards citizenship, contains a prominent notice that it is “Invalid for all purposes seven years after the date hereof.”

Nonetheless, 14 years later on “the 12th day of May in the Year of our Lord nineteen hundred and forty three, and of our independence the one hundred and sixty seventh,” Elizabeth was issued a certificate of Naturalization (No. 5790577) in the United States District Court in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
