Notes for Hamil Cato Timmons
On 25 Oct. 1861 Hamil enlisted as a Corporal in Company A, 4th Georgia State Troops Regiment. On 25 April 1862 he “mustered out” as a Corporal. Then three weeks later, on 15 May 1862, he enlisted as a Private in Company C, 56th Georgia Infantry Regiment.

Hamil Cato ... served four years in the bloody war of the Republic, was severely wounded at the battle of Missionary Ridge, November 25, 1863. He suffered the loss of an eye but became proficient in the practice of medicine in spite of his disabilities. He was a fine singer and served his church faithfully as a steward. He died the 15th of April, 1912, in Atlanta, Ga., leaving a wife and one daughter.

In “Ancestral Etchings,” Thomas H. Timmons reports that at his death Hamil left only his wife and a daughter. Perhaps his two sons predeceased him; or perhaps the sons listed here are those of his older brother Floyd Clark Timmons.
