Notes for Sumter Elizabeth Arnold McCorkle
Sumter Elizabeth’s birth date “happened also to be the birth date of her aunt, Sumter Smith McCord, who, in turn, had been named “Sumter” because of having been born on Aptil 11,1861, on the eve of the firing of the first gun at Ft. Sumter, S.C. On April 25th, 1899 she was married at the McCorkle house, Cleveland Street, Thomson, by the Rev. J. R. King, to the Rev. Thomas Holmes Timmons. Then only twenty-five, she died on Nov. 15, 1900. She is buried on the H. McCorkle Square, Thomson Semetery, Her grave is marked.”
